Which render mode for indoor scenes?

Here is the render comparison with a former popular test scene, with slightly modified details by me:

- new lamp model and positioning
- table and chairs positioning
- additional table decoration models

Rendered with exit portals, only the visible window contains a double-sided glass model … to speed up render time, I deleted all the others not visible to the camera. Only indirect lighting; 3 layers (sun, sky, image backplate behind the balcony).

I didn't manage and wanted to set the same render time and ssp; but they are quite close to another … check the info stamp in the lower left of the pictures.
Both have glass acceleration, both are bi-directional, SS is 4. One is PT, one is MLT.

My conclusion is that the MLT render gives faster results by far in my case, with that pixel output size.


I hope that this could help someone … and now we can discuss the cons and pros of the render modes in such lighted indoor situations.
