...a little rough to be 8hours on a quadcore!
Are there glasses at the windows? Did you use exit portals?

i have to agree with you, it is rough considering 8 hrs went into this.
no exit portals were used. the windows are simple opening in the wall without any glass material.

Add exit portals to the openings and check you whites' values: 210 210 210 should be ok!

how much of an increment in speed would you say can happen in your opinion by doing this?
i know that having a pure white material reduces rendering speed. so i already am having a slightly darker shade in this render

Don't know exactly.
But I think that if you let the render cook overnight with exit portal, the result would be MUCH clearer.

Just try and let us know!

I can tell for the new rays being created into the scene. More than 90% of them are lost to the image, bouncing off the exterior walls. Of course that doesn't tell the effective improvement you will witness since rays managing their way into the basement do have their own computational weight. But at least, if properly set, portals will make nearly all of the new rays to contribute to the render.

Not using them for such a scene is a bounce back in the years :)
obsolete asset
