Lot of shots of a new exporter and bad news ;-) (2/1/2007)
I want to correct my previous statement about xml format. I coded multi-material support into my wip exporter yesterday and did some testing today. Results are way better than i initially described. I was able to export a 173k poly sphere into xml. Max ran out of memory when sphere had about 180k polys So I'd say, that my current exporter to xmlMesh supports models which have 170k polys. That is more than twice of poly count *.3ds supports.suvakas wrote:Actually i havn't been able to export objects larger than 60-70k polys from max using xml file format.

The exporting process is multiple times slower when object has texture though. (Thats because of the Max way of storing texture vertexes).
Here are 2 test renderings i did with optimized Happy Buddha model (exported into xml format)


Textured version took 30 minutes longer to export !!
Anyway. I just wanted to correct my previous statement. That's all.
And also xml mesh will be quite obsolet now when *.obj gets implemented so..

wow nice work victor thnx a lot for this great work....but...im a litle confused about the material system...what is medium what is spectrum for materials...i dont have a clear picture of the new things....

I haven't been around much lately (busy with work, and i had an interview at a game studio) so i've been away a lot haha. But this is excellent! Glad to see it coming along!

tizxx the only thing that it doesn't like me could be problems between max versions and max9 64bits especially, but it could be an option to choose scripts exporter (compatibility) or plugin one (speed).
