Subdivision : re-calculating vertices position ???

Post by madcoo » Thu Sep 03, 2009 10:06 pm

Hi all!
:D

I've got what may seem a stupid question...

When I subdivide a mesh, all it does is add more vertices to it.
So far so good, you may say...

But let's say I've created a bowl, made from a sphere cut in two halves.
At this point, I notice that it's still not round and smooth enough (Fig.1 below represents a detail of the mesh)

=> If I subdivide it, I'll certainly get more vertices, but it won't make it any smoother. (Fig.2 - new vertices represented in green)

Is there an option to have Blender re-calculate the position of the new vertices so I can get a smoother mesh - as shown in Fig.3?
(without of course re-subsurfing the whole thing)

Thanks guys!
:D

Sorry for the poor quality of the image, but I'm at work, so I had to do it with MS Paint...

Indigo is able to do that.

just enable subdivision smoothing. not sure if blendigo supports it.... :)

To answer you question, the modifier is subsurf. Crease value is located in transform properties shortcut "n" and edit mode. It allows you to play with your edge

edit:Blendigo supports subdivision smoothing doesn't uses crease value...

Thanks, I'll try that as soon as I'm at home!

(my current job's driving me mad - I feel much better in front of my Blendigo screen!)

Do I have to play with the value of "subdivision smoothing"?
(if I remember well you can set values from 1 to 20)

indigo subdivision is broken now. I'm working on it. in the next days you'll get a working version.
Check normals, dude!
