Render only get's so good?

Post by atmmatt » Sun Oct 22, 2006 4:38 am

I did the tutorial found with the blue glass monkey and cube. I rendered and 3 hours later it was fantastic, looked like a photograph only better. I made my bedroom and rendered it and it was getting ok but still real grainy, like a long exposure 6400 asa picture. I let it go for 20 hours. I took the render from 6 hours and copy/pasted it. I then took the final 20 hours ones, copy/pasted. I put them in photoshop and almost identical. The 20 hour one had more red noise dots all over? I turned this thing from 1000 down to 200 as I think I read in a post somewhere on the forums here. I ran indigo again with the bedroom (this is maybe the 4th test?) and after a couple hours it's as good as it gets... It's 1 light from outside shining inside (no windows). It only get's to a certain stage and never get's better. I'm guessing it must be settings or something right? Could my computer really suck that much?

These two have a few hours seperation in processing, it's been the same looking since I went to sleep last night when it was only 90 minutes in.

p.s. if you want the exported xml or even the .blend to export yourself to try just say I will upload them also (6 meg files or more though)
"To be, or not to be" That is a question?

I don't know if this belongs in bugs and requests but I can't seem to render a large file. I made a complete model in a cad package, exported and importated into blender. Exported the finished xml at 100 meg. It starts and then crashes saying runtime error! Hrm must be too weird, has many thousand faces due to the cad package exporting.

If you have any pure white objects try changeing it to something off white because pure white makes noise last longer
