Hi Radiance,
Once again I'd like to thank you and ask you if it were possible to include a material sample for a non-transparent mirror in your next correction (V0.12) since the three examples you include are all specular and transparent and more focused on representing glass.
Everytime I try to get a mirror I just get a black-non-reflective material.
Thanks for the effort put into this tutorial
regards,
Alvaro

hehehe, thanks radiance, trying it out now!
ps. I've always wanted to ask you what you use for trees in your scenes. Do you place them directly in blender or do you add them later in postpro?

If it's still black, try disabling bidir.

thanks animelix, but you mean in a transparent material (raytransp) or a mirror material (raymirror)? IOR options are only available in glass material setup.

maybe there are different ways?
i took this and it worked well:
<material>
<name>Spiegel</name>
<specular>
<normal_reflectance>300.87</normal_reflectance>
<ior>5.0</ior>
<transparent>false</transparent>
<cauchy_b_coeff>0.0</cauchy_b_coeff>
<rgb_absorptivity>0 0 0</rgb_absorptivity>
</specular>
</material>
(i think the high value on "normal_reflectance" is important too,
transparent on "false"
(I had to edit this):)

thnx animelix!

your code works cool. I'll save it as a template to modify my xmls whenever I need a mirror material.
I'll post a screenie after some more rendering passes.
