Modeling a crystal glass

Post by tony » Sat Jul 12, 2008 5:20 am

Hello everyone.

I modeled a glass crystal and I met with different surprises:

1. Without smoothing, showed their faces.

2. Smoothing, are strangers.

3. EdgeSplit. Continue strangers.

4. Mark Shap (above). Strangers disappear from the top.

5. Mark Shap (below). No improvement.

6. Off "From Edge Angle." It looks good.

I do not know if there is a systematic (in addition to the manual).

Any contribution will be grateful.

Now try with fluid and uploaded the results.

It seems to me that you are running into the same problem I was. No one really had much of an answer and I never did solve the problem.

5OnIt:

I think that is not the same problem because I have not applied subsuf only Set smooth + Edge Split.

Anyway I think there will be a systematic for glass objects.

Some of the renders I did were not subsurfed. I tried every combination of subsurfing, smoothing and edgesplit I could think of. It could never get it to go completely away.

OK... Tried your "From Edge Angle" suggestion. There is still some strangeness going on with the reflections, but it does seem to be much better. Unsure as to what the small pieces of "dirt" are located on the bottom surface of the glasses.
