Blender 2.62 Tutorials?
Blender 2.62 Tutorials?
Hi everyone. I'm new and I downloaded the trial version of Indigo RT. After a little experimenting I wasn't able to do a few of the things I wanted. I tried searching the forum but I was unsuccessful. I do have a few questions if anyone can help.
-How do I go about creating a depth of field effect? I tried using a small f/stop and a longer focal length, and I even set and object as the point of focus in Blender, to no avail. I'm thinking that maybe this feature is only offered in Indigo Renderer.
-How do I use HDRI lighting? The way I understand it is that to have light in your scene, you must first create a mesh and set it as an emission. I was able to fake the effect by creating a dome, flipping the normals, & applying an image texture as the emission. But I saw no option that allowed me to use an .exr file. I'm sure there's a better way than I'm doing it.
I'd appreciate any help anyone can offer. The discount ends on the 20th of this month and I'd like to know that I can do a few things with it before I make my purchase. Thanks for reading and have a nice day!

Re: Blender 2.62 Tutorials?
Hey, Kwayde, welcome!
move it to the position that you would like to be a focus point
select the camera
go to the Object Data
turn off Auto Focus in Indigo settings
set the Empty object as as focus in Depth of field settings
Be aware of the scale of the objects, ie. 1m cube with scale 3 is 3m cube in Indigo, so always apply scale to achieve correct size.

RT version is definitely capable of it. You can see the comparison here:I'm thinking that maybe this feature is only offered in Indigo Renderer.

You have to use the Hemi lamp. Settings for the HDRI environment map are in it's Object data. How do I use HDRI lighting?

Cheers for helping out with the questions Dakiru, and welcome Kwayde!
Re: Blender 2.62 Tutorials?
Thanks Dakiru and thank you for having me, Lycium.
The HDRI lighting worked like a charm, but I can't seem to get a hang of the DOF thing. I followed your instructions to a T but it still didn't work right. I'm not quite sure what you mean by being aware of the scale, but the scale of my monkeys in the scene are the default size I simply added in. I was hoping someone could take a look and offer any suggestions.

When the Monkey is created, it has these dimensions: 2.734m x 1.969m 1.703m, which is quite big to achieve depth of field with those distances between them. I have to put the Monkey quite far away, plus set the minimum possible setting for f/stop.Kwayde wrote:I'm not quite sure what you mean by being aware of the scale, but the scale of my monkeys in the scene are the default size I simply added in
Now I select all my Monkeys, camera and focus point, and scale them down to 0.2, so they are 5 times smaller. But now it is necessary to apply scale on all of my geometry, so simply select all (A), Apply Object transformations (CTRL+A), Scale (3). Now they are small enough to achieve what we need.

Re: Blender 2.62 Tutorials?
Dakiru, you are the man with the master plan!
Right now I can only afford Indigo RT. Is it possible to upgrade to Indigo Renderer in the future?
I'd love to take advantage of SSS.

Re: Blender 2.62 Tutorials?
We do indeed have an upgrade path, but I'd suggest getting in there before the sale's out!

Re: Blender 2.62 Tutorials?
Here's another question for all of you fine folks. How do I go about using the motion blur feature? I just want a still image with the moving object showing the blur. I animated my object & enabled the motion blur check box, but no luck. Can anyone please provide a simple tutorial?

Turn ON Motion Blur
Turn OFF Auto Focus
Turn OFF Auto Exposure
Slower shutter speed (exposure) = more motion blur
You can adjust the aperture (f-stop) to expose the image properly (with camera tone-mapping).
Check the attached scene and this.

Re: Blender 2.62 Tutorials?
Thanks for getting back to me, dakiru! It's been a while since I've even been able to touch Blender or Indigo but I followed your instructions to a T and it worked out great, except for one thing. I tried it with the monkey but for some reason, it's rotated when it's rendered. Any idea why this might happen?
