OK, the current exporter. Who's working on making area lights convert into rectanglelights? If no one, I'll see what I can do. That aspect is really driving me nuts.
I'll say it, Yafray is dead...

OK maybe not, but it's shortcomings (especially transparency) are driving me nuts.

Yafray is currently much more used than Indigo, and both have a good share of shortcommings. Yes, Indigo too.
I wish Indigo at least half the succes and achievements than Yafray has. I hope that the Indigo forum is a place where the work of yafray developers and collaborators is respected and well considered. I wuold be a mistake not to do so IMO.
Alvaro.
PD: YafRay is alive. I have great hope in the future. Any software is immune against the problems that today is facing YafRay.

I guess it's time I said something, not sure what, but at least a 'few' words...
At this point any official yafray development really is non-existent, nothing that I know of anyway. AFAIK Jandro simply doesn't have the time at all, and while I do have time I need to spend it on other things. While I still could do some development, I don't really don't want to do it without Jandro, he is the creator of yafray after all, and it just wouldn't be the same really...

We all read it with dismay. And of course new developers may come in and take up the reins much like the way a certain pair have taken it upon themselves to be the Yafray documentation specialists...
Indigo doesn't even have the source out there, it's Nick's baby. And it's only running on non-M$ platforms under emulation (which I happily admit is as fast as native Win, at least single-threaded on intel linux.) So Indigo could die and disappear completely, short of someone hacking Nick's HDD and grabbing the sources off his laptop. While I can't predict the future I've witnessed weirder things happen out here in software land.
I do still use Yafray, and Indigo, povray, and even the blendternal... all the while really wanting a full-on RIB exporter.
So maybe Mathias can turn it around, who knows what the future holds? But no one's going to trash talk Yafray. Why would they? It's brilliant. Well, 'cept for that whole transparency thing. Grr!
That's your personal opinion and I respect it, but look around you and observe.
Yafray is not the only project that might suffer from too much dependency on a single main developer. The yafray project is learning many things from that lesson so that it doesn't happen again in the future. In that regard, the yafray project will be ahead of other similar projects. Mathias is not alone.
Besides, none of the original Yafray developers has stepped down, nor Jandro. I have great confidence in all of them.
I should be the first person complaining. I need YafRay. I use YafRay for my commercial work! But I think that it is not right, because it is time to help instead of complaining.
