caustics behind dielectric??

Post by Slobodan » Sat Dec 01, 2007 11:49 am

I'm reading that MLT based renderers have issue with caustics behind dielectrics. What's the deal with that?? Can Indigo do those??

Thanks,

Slobodan

yes it can, since some time, now.
There already was a HUGE test-thread, which showed the problem and went on, when the problem was solved and much more recently, there was a test, again :)
You just need to make sure, that your Max_num_consec_rejections (a render-setting, found in the inifile and in theory also in your exporter's gui) is at at least 1000 - then, you should see caustics through transparent stuff :)

Thanks for reply guys..
I was at NextLimit forum and some people bitched about not being able to see caustics behind transperent stuff. Someone said that is common for MLT renderers. I was sure though that indigo can do that.. :)

as long as you have bidrectional on and MLT with MNCR at least 1000 then you will see them given enough rendering time

Maxwell is just Path tracing, no MLT there, so you will never see caustics behind glass ever :)

need MLT for that
