there is no way to model/render liquids in a glass entirely correctly in any released version of Indigo.
Depending on how this new technique works out, the next version should have support for this.
Now the first 0.7 test version is out and i'm wondering if it's possible now?
Do we need special settings for the materials like precendence or something?
We have to enable also polarisation in the infile.txt i guess?

Yes, correct rendering of glass/liquids is possible now.
Make the model to the specifications in the first post.
You'll need to define two 'medium' elements in the xml, glass and water.
Give glass a precedence > than that of water, say 20.
Set water precedence to 10.
(air always has precedence of 1).

Then create two specular materials.
The <internal_medium_name>'s should be set to glass and water respectively.

Polarisation doesn't have to be enabled.

That's great Ono !

Any hint what precedence is about, in short ? What's the relation with ior ? Er, why 10 or 20 not 0.2 or 200k ? In short, heh !? Got some web ressource about that ?

Thx

Yes..

Code: Select all

	<medium>
		<name>scattering_medium</name>

              <precedence>10</precedence>

		<ior>1.5</ior>
		<cauchy_b_coeff>0.0</cauchy_b_coeff>
		<absorption_coefficient_spectrum>
			<rgb>
				<rgb>10000.0 5 5</rgb>
			</rgb>
		</absorption_coefficient_spectrum>

		<subsurface_scattering>
			<scattering_coefficient_spectrum>
				<uniform>
					<value>10</value>
				</uniform>
			</scattering_coefficient_spectrum>

			<phase_function>
				<uniform/>
			</phase_function>
		</subsurface_scattering>
	</medium>
should work
