Well I don't have a absolute favorite, but images which need to be mentioned are "Whiskers Of Fury" which fits to the topic, yours and "World of parabolas" for technically/realism section, "Nighthawks" technically/lighting and "Entrapment" is quite funny but not that a good render.

The contests 2007/2008/2009 had a lot more to offer. Maybe not that many out there who are familier with external renders and using blender.

Setting of the material I used are quite simple — a 50/50 blend of the textured phong of exponent=10 with textured diffuse transmitter.

I just discovered that double clicking the .pigm launches the Indigo material editor, that's neat!
