Weird sound
Weird sound
Hi
What can it be, i get weird sound from speakers/ headphones when Indigo 2.2.12 stable is tonemaping?
Starts from 20 sec, recorded from logitech z-2300 speaker volume maxed out, and when listening music it's not that noticeable but a little disturbing.
Sometimes the sounds are more variable, they stop start change.

Re: Weird sound
I got the same sounds with my AC97 onboard sound
I've figured it's the PSU when it's on high load (much cpu used).
Nothing sure, however.

Re: Weird sound
I wonder does it exist with non onboard audio, like with ASUS Xonar Essence STX, or any other audiocard

Re: Weird sound
Try this: plug in an external HDD (via USB) and see if you then hear the same sound.
For my PC the HDD isnt even recognized properly and my PSU screams in pain...

Re: Weird sound
I'm too lazy to search for the explanation of what it is, but it's normal. Nothing to worry about. I've had this with all my Pc's during past 10 years or so.
Maybe pro soundcards don't have it...

Re: Weird sound
i've noticed all kinds of strange noises from my power supply unit in the past, while doing different computing tasks... it's "normal" but not very good
Re: Weird sound
I have known both GPUs and firewire interfaces make both audible noise and induce noise into the sound system. Annoying, but probably harmless.
Re: Weird sound
I didn't get weird noises when plugin in usb drive.
Maybe it's artificial intelligence speaking in machines.
Re: Weird sound
Sounds like a capacitor charge/discharge, but I'm no expert. I think those are the most wearable electronic components in a computer but this doesn't necessarily mean that it's harmfull when you hear such noises.
Now I realize that most noises disapeared after I changed some HW on my pc, audio and cg boards.

Thanks for confirming dcm, sometimes I feel like I forgot to tie something to my feets before I jumped...
This I can't answer, all I know about tonemapping is that it's multithreaded...What can it be, i get weird sound from speakers/ headphones when Indigo 2.2.12 stable is tonemaping?

Some harware bottleneck, audio has cpu addiction,CTZn wrote:This I can't answer, all I know about tonemapping is that it's multithreaded...What can it be, i get weird sound from speakers/ headphones when Indigo 2.2.12 stable is tonemaping?
Re: Weird sound
Hardware yes. I have a brand new assembled pc, and by curiousity I swapped my radio band from fm to am, rebooted... concerto @ 960kHz.
So it might as well be induced into the audio card.
