Licencing: Just to clarify...

Post by Pixelgeezer » Thu Jul 09, 2009 12:01 am

Do I need a licence for releases of Indigo before the first commercial release?

Thank you,
James

That's very good to hear :) Unfortunately I am only a hobbyist user, and I am only 16 and have no means of obtaining the (to somebody in my position) incredibly large licence fee required to upgrade.

Thanks for responding so promptly :)

Indeed :D It really would be a shame if Indigo was suddenly cut off to those who cannot afford it.. I mean, I know there is a free version of the latest edition but 1024x768 with a watermark is of little use to me. If the free version had a (much) larger limit and no watermark, and instead was for non-commercial use only, then I would upgrade. For now, however, I'm happy with my older version :)

I'd even pay for that upgrade, in fact.
Ben, what about a noncommercial license that removes the watermark and enlarges the size restriction and is a good bit cheaper in return?

Do you really think Nick and Ben could make a living if that was the case? ;) :D

If there was a 'home' edition or something, with a few less restrictions a smaller price tag, then I would probably buy it. However, the €295 asking price is £254 here in the UK, and unfortunately I just don't have access to that sort of money, which is something I'm sure must be true for some other users.

It's a pity, as I genuinely believe Indigo is the best blender-compatiable renderer available on the internet.

Benn said there is going to be a student edition coming in a few months, so that it probably something you can look forward to. :)
