I have now tested the same benchmark with my HD 7970 on Mac OS X and I get comparable results.

3.8.29 CPU => 1.891M s/sec (i7 4770k - Windows)
4.0.25 CPU => 2.174M s/sec (i7 4770k - Windows)
4.0.25 GPU => 5.217M s/sec (HD 7950 - Windows)
4.0.25 GPU => 6.071M s(sec (HD 7970 - OS X)

This seems to indicate that performance on OS X + AMD is very much comparable to that on Windows.

Cool!! Can you guys do a test when you specify a fix number of sample rate?
Let's see how v4 does in therms of time with a fixed 2000 s/px.
