Indigo 4 & Metal - OSX 10.11 El Capitain

Post by contegufo » Sat Aug 22, 2015 10:44 am

Hi

I do not know if it will be compatible with Indigo 4 Metal framework that will be included with the next OSX 10.11 El Capitan. Too bad only Mac products from 2012 and later will be able to reap benefits.

https://developer.apple.com/metal/

"Metal streamlines developers' access to the graphics processor in the Macintosh, reducing the amount of time the Mac's CPU spends doing work related to graphics, so it can do more. The net result is dramatically improved graphics performance: A Mac running Metal can draw objects on the screen up to ten times faster than without." http://www.imore.com/here-are-macs-work ... ign=buffer

Not sure Indigo 4 (or any other unbiased software renderer) does have anything to do with this kind of API.

Metal, Vulkan and DX12 API all of them are used for hardware rendering, Indigo 4 does use OpenCL to implement proprietary advanced algorithms, so will not at all interact with low level hardware API IMHO.
