Wow, things are looking better every day! Zeiti, what do you mean by single face option in Cindigo? We already have Single Face Glass option? I guess that's not what you meant, is it?

It is what he meant.

You know what, it's been done and lying around for ages. I'm scared the release it with the motion blur "improvements" tho :S

Lots of scenes will break...

Can you tell a little bit about the magic behind it, what is the drawback?
On the material side, it is basically turned into a coating over a diffuse transmitter material, similar to
http://www.indigorenderer.com/forum/vie ... 23&t=13406

The medium uses an approximation which means it renders a lot faster for highly scattering materials.
So the fast sss material will be well suited for skin etc.., but not for thin clouds, fog etc..

No fear here my dear...
I want to use indigo for animations.
Sorry for highjacking; I will stop here. :-)

Ive been hoping for a slider to control sss like in skindigo. I think this would be really convient, but maybe this doesnt make sense. Thoughts?

What's wrong with the "Gain" slider?

Ah, nice catch didnt see that. :) But imho, adding sss still takes too many clicks. I would like to see it as a property for phong materials maybe. The way it is right now, we have to adjust not only the sss but the blend of the material to get the look we want. Just an idea. Maybe this new fast sss could be the answer. :)

Well, that is kind of a point, to show you, and place you onto the track of how materials/sss works through the medium. I my opinion, SSS is done perfectly, gain for absorption and scattering is perfectly usable (1/value(x)(m)). The only thing left is to create a user friendly interface that would control the heterogeneous medium, but writing a simple ISL is not a problem. The real deal would be a creation of real, unbiased clouds, through a, perhaps, separate interface, (atmosphere editor, a la vue style) but it takes ages to render it for now, at least with my machines. As for the phong material with SSS, you could just use coating over a highly scatterous specular medium, glossy transparent or diffuse transmitter (with specific medium settings set up inside Indigo, because this is not possible through the exporter atm (C4D wise)). Much like how real world functions! :D
