Canon S90

Post by Whaat » Wed Jul 28, 2010 5:16 pm

So...I've basically decided to purchase a Canon S90 unless someone can convince me otherwise. I'm looking for the following features in a camera:
- Compact size (easily pocketable)
- Full manual controls of aperture, shutter speed, etc.
- Great picture quality
- auto exposure bracketing for ease of taking photos to merge to HDR
- Great low light capabilities (for a non-SLR)
- wider angle shooting

In addition to using this camera for everyday shooting, I would like to use it to create HDR 360x90 sky panoramas. I've already purchased PTgui (awesome, BTW! Thanks galinette!) but now I need a better camera. I know a digital SLR would be the proper solution but I've owned an SLR before, and I hated lugging it around for everyday shooting.

Is there any other model I should consider besides the S90? I ask here since there seems to be lots of experienced photographers in this forum. I am not a complete beginner but I am very far from being an expert.

Thanks in advance.

From what I've read thats a pretty good compact - me, when I'm using a compact, I use a Panasonic LX3.

Great build, great RAW, and has a greater EV range for auto bracketing for your HDR's - see this site:

Also it's one of the sexiest camera's I've used

Panasonic have just announced a LX5 - not much changes - more tweaks but may mean you can get the LX3 for less soon?.

oh and a wider lens ,24mm, which is also useful for HDR. :D

Oh and yes I have that little viewfinder and it's great - feels like I have a mini Leica in my hands! :o
