so... do you guys think my CPU will be fast enough to feed the GTX460 for CUDA rendering?
Will a Core2Duo E6300 @2ghz Bottleneck a GTX460?
Will a Core2Duo E6300 @2ghz Bottleneck a GTX460?
Hello guys... im planning to buy a GTX460 to replace my ridiculously SLOW gpu... i know the 460 isnt the best... but some times we must have the best we can get huh

Re: Will a Core2Duo E6300 @2ghz Bottleneck a GTX460?
Sorry i didnt get the answer right... will it bottleneck or will be fast enough to feed it?
do you think its gonna be really slower then it should be if it does bottleneck?
and if I use a GPU only rendering software like Octane the speed of the GPU will be 100%?
i can't upgrade my whole computer right now... its a shame.. I love indigo

Re: Will a Core2Duo E6300 @2ghz Bottleneck a GTX460?
Zom-B answered to the poll question, not to your last question.
Indigo is using an hybrid method while using GPU, because the current hardware can not take the whole methods it requires for accuracy if I am correct.
If you need a new graphics board for another purpose then go ahead, concerning Indigo the performance gain may be sensible but it will not scale linearly due to the necessity to use CPUs nonetheless.
Currently CPUs are the parts to be updated because they are the bottleneck indeed on the average PC.

Re: Will a Core2Duo E6300 @2ghz Bottleneck a GTX460?
I see... well I hope I get at least double the speed i get now with my 9500gt... thanks for the answer...
Maybe i'll be buying the gtx460 tomorow...
my machine is so ancient
i need a upgrade asap
EDIT: You think if I get a cheap Phenon2X6 the GPU will do its best?

Re: Will a Core2Duo E6300 @2ghz Bottleneck a GTX460?
Yes, I was telling your CPU would not be able to feed the GPU fast enough!
the best kinds of combination are quite hard to determine, since Indigo code continuously advances it can change from one day to another!
My system is a 6 Core AMD and I have a ancient ATI 4870 inside that is supporting OpenCL v1 and can be used for rendering. The Issue here is that while the GPU works with 96% load my CPU only uses about 55%.
So a slow GPU can also result in a Bottleneck...
I wait for next Gen GPUs and see how they perform in Indigo, then decide what a upgrade I'll invest my money in

Re: Will a Core2Duo E6300 @2ghz Bottleneck a GTX460?
Yup. Zom-B's exactly right
Right now your CPU is the limiting factor, and a faster one will let you get more out of that 460 (which is pretty good).
Re: Will a Core2Duo E6300 @2ghz Bottleneck a GTX460?
Well! thats that then... cant make a miracle out of my computer... thanks for the answers.
When I get the GPU i'll post again for some comparison if possible... if there is someone with a GTX 460 I would love to compare how my CPU will be slowing things down.
Thanks

Re: Will a Core2Duo E6300 @2ghz Bottleneck a GTX460?
Hey guys... I've done some tests in my CPU and GPU Load right now... I was running indigo with CUDA and my CPU got around 70~80% while the GPU got 40~70% Load... does that mean my CPU is already a bottleneck to my 9500GT? If so... I think its useless to buy a new GPU ain't it? if my CPU can't even handle my GPU... but... I think it could be the GPU's memory speed too? its a really slow 333mhz memory on the 9500gt... maybe it cant handle the data fast enough and it kinda bottlenecks the CPU...? anyone knows whats happening here? because I need to Buy a CPU or a GPU... but my CPU upgrade will be a lot heavier on my pockets...
Re: Will a Core2Duo E6300 @2ghz Bottleneck a GTX460?
It could be that transferring of data over the PCI Express bus is limiting performance. Newer computers have very fast 2nd (and soon 3rd) generation PCI Express buses, which is quite helpful with tight CPU/GPU compute applications. The performance balance will vary from scene to scene too (depending on material and geometry complexity etc).
GPU acceleration in Indigo is far from finished, and we expect a lot of improvements in the future!

Re: Will a Core2Duo E6300 @2ghz Bottleneck a GTX460?
Omg
it gets more and more complicated... So i think i defenitely need to upgrade my mobo for a faster PCI-ex port... man... I need a entire computer right NAO
anyways... did you guys see the new ASUS family with the PCI-ex 3.0.. its allready selling but... kinda pricy... and i think its over exagerated? its SLI ready... thats ok... but... handles up to 64gb of memory? thats a LOT of memory
