help a poor boy installing indigo

Sorry guys. I'm a total noob about Ubuntu.
I want to install Indigo (tar.gz) in Linux, but I don't know even the basic step of whatsoever software installation.

Could anybody help me out with a small step-by-step guide?

Don't take anything for granted: total noob means I can only START Ubuntu.

Hey,

I never used indigo on linux but try this:

open the terminal

Code: Select all

cd ~/Downloads (or wherever you downloaded indigo to)
tar -zxvf indigotargzfile.tar.gz
cd (the folder it extracted to)
./indigo

Terminal hint:
A key feature of the linux terminal (and others, in fact) is that you can use TAB to auto-complete directory and filenames (and in linux, there is autocomplete for commands and other things too), that will same you having to type complicated filenames over and over

Don't know exactly what I'm doing, but I'm doing it

Installation went well: indigo 2.4.10 for Linux 64bits is running.
But I don't get it to recognize my license key.

Every time I click over Licensing, an error window comes up saying something concerning a wrong mac address.

Same error appears in the licensing window, in the hardware key zone (mac_addr failed or something similar). Copy and paste the hardware key from the txt files doesn't work. I cannot paste anything into this slot.
The lower window seems alright, instead, as I see my complete license code.

The curious part is that I have a pc and not a mac

This is because You registered your Indigo version on your Windows installation.
The registration demands a mac address (some "id" thing about the Network Card afaik).
The value of this ID is different for each Operation System and also (afaik) after each new fresh installation on a machine.

I have the same problem running WIN & OSX on my iMac...

Since you are running Linux now too, I would like to request a quick 5min benchmark from you, comparing win vs Linux performance.
If I'm correct Linux build should be way faster >>link

Actually, the MAC adress is unique to a network adapter. It is(well should be ) the only network adapter with this ID in the whole world and it does not change when you reinstall you computer.

The issue here could be that the CPU id result differs on other OSs but i don't think so.

Most likely your machine has multiple network adapters(each has a different MAC address) and Indigo picks the wrong one in linux as the order of the network adapters is probably not the same as in windows. Indigo just picks the first one, afaik. (I may be wrong. Never looked at that part of Indigo)

Looking at your earlier post,

It looks like Indigo has a problem getting the mac adress in the first place. My previous post was more or less directed at Zom-B

I don't know how you could possibly fix that issue but i will consult the all knowing google for a while. Will be back soon - hopefully with answers

HMM don't really know..
As I was telling Lycium, my Linux section is managed by a friend, temporary unavailable. I can remember he installe version 2.0.12 on Linux and that it worked perfectly (no ports or addresses issues), so there sure is a way to fix this. Yes. Ask my friend when he comes back home.
