Linux Version

Post by Xylber » Thu Dec 20, 2007 6:39 am

Is there, or will be a Linux version? Because in the poll of the main page Linux is the most used:

Linux 35%
Windows 29.9%
MacOS X 28.1%
Windows x64 6%
FreeBSD 0.6%
other... 0.4%

I come here because i want a renderer for Blender, and I see this pic:

Image

made with Blender and Indigo

In my work I have Windows+3dsMAx9+VRay, but in home I have Linux+Blender+??
I think for everybody who use Linux, or have no money for buy 3dsMAx, Blender is an excellent option, plus Indigo looks like VRay, I (We) dont need nothing more than a Linux version of Indigo Renderer.

Could it be?

There is (0.9.1 stable)
But after that, there isn't...

Oh, and the poll is pretty much wrong: After 24h, you can vote again, and I guess, many did that....

Win Lin Mac
32 64
all that's needed :)
(Linux seems to be very important. It seems to be abut the half of all Indigoers, who use Linux... - even if the poll on first page isn't very accurate, the first results already showed about equally many Windows and Linux users...)

There's already a version for Linux - a lot of us use it, too. Search the forum before posting, next time.

If I remember correctly, exrs work for 64bit Linux for some reason - they just don't work with Win64...

It is probably not fun building a bunch of versions every time Indigo is updated. There have been Linux versions in the past and there will probably be more in the future but I would try not to hassle Ono. This question gets asked all of the time.

Be happy if Ono just gives one Linux version per major version number rather than making 3 or 4 builds for 32/64bit for each OS every time he makes a minor version. As a hobby programmer myself I would not be making special builds every time I changed something. It would take longer to make all of the builds than to fix some other bug in the program.

Sorry if I offended anyone, I did not mean to. :)

Nah, you are right, and its fantastic make for example 1 linux version each six month or each time you reach a decimal number (0.8/0,9/1,0).

I made this post because I check de Download page and there is only the Windows version, and in the forum I read people who use it with Wine; and there is a guide for use it with Wine in the tutorial forums, so I thought a Linux version doesnt exist.

So, Where I can download the Linux version?

Thanks and sorry

(suggestion, doesnt matter if the version is old but I think it must be on download page)

Hello,

All of the Indigo releases are in the news and annoucements forum. Usually they are "sticky" posted at the top, but not all of them. The link to the Linux version I am aware of is here:

http://www.indigorenderer.com/joomla/fo ... php?t=2796

Also in the news and annoucement forum are Windows 64 bit builds of different versions. (in case you also use a Windows 64 bit OS) Enjoy :)

Edit: I was just checking the Indigo Beta/Test download page and found other Linux versions of Indigo there. It appears some of them are not posted on the forum. (as far as I can tell) I always thought all versions were posted on the forum.

Hi Xylber,

There are some native-Linux Indigo builds floating around in the beta downloads section.

They're not quite 'first-class citizens' yet, however, for the time being you might just want to use a windows version under Wine.

The next Linux builds should be much better, I've fixed a silly deadlock bug that was causing hangs after certain time periods.
EXR support should also work fine, assuming you install OpenEXR first.

As a general principle I will only release all the builds for different platforms (32 bit / 64 bit windows, 32 bit / 64 bit linux) for major version increases (e.g going from 0.9 to 1.0).
As Wedge mentioned, it's quite a bit of work to make all the builds, and not something I want to spend time on doing for each minor version.
So usually I will just release windows 32 bit builds for minor versions.
