Indigo killer feature/must buy app

Post by Russdigo » Mon Nov 09, 2009 12:32 am

As I've bought Indigo's lifetime licence I have a vested interest in seeing Indigo do well in the market.

I'm putting this thread out to try and see how Indigo might distinguish itself from the competition and give it a unique selling point (USP).

At the moment its USP is the lifetimes licence but those will be gone soon. After they have dried up maybe the development team will have to think hard what they can do with Indigo to make it stand out. Ok so some products are faster than each other, some better quality some more stable but they are not a "million" miles from each other.

Maxwell's USP is its the market leader, its established, well supported and can afford to be expensive.

Fryrender's USP is its Virtual Reality technology RC5.

Lux and Kerkythea are both FREE products enough said.

Indigo's USP, its cheaper... well its cheaper than two products anyway...

My possible USP that could be developed. (I wouldn't know if these are pie in the sky or not just putting them out there).

1. Indigo licences come with a free Overdrive-farm provided by Glare. This Overdrive-farm is maybe a handfull of multi core systems. A priority system would determine order of use by the users.

Don't think of it like a dedicated render farm like Ranch, where you upload and render your project. Think of it like overdrive or turbo boost button for indigo.

When you hit your render button and your connected to the internet the Glare render-farm decides if its your turn for the boost. If so then your computer is given extra slaves to render your project. Your project is automatically uplaoded and crunched for you, your main computer acting as the master.

If its not your turn then its down to your normal set-up.

Maybe users might have the option to contribute slaves or extra credit.

Well thats one way for Glare to use up what little money it's made so far I guess

The killer feature for Indigo should always be - it's gives better, faster renders - end of story. Just my opinion of course. :)

The unique selling point should be in Indigo's tools. These day's most renderers can create images that are hard to distinguish from photographs..

Well I have to say on this I disagree. There are some renderers, not just unbiased ones, that are pretty good at getting a almost photo-realistic look. But imho Indigo is one that just looks like a photograph.

Thats certainly one of the main reasons why I purchased it.
