Network rendering traffic

Post by kadajawi » Sat Jun 23, 2007 10:51 am

I've tried rendering together with a friend, but there is a lot of traffic generated. Not that it matters a lot because of flatrates, but it still is a bit annoying. Any way to reduce the traffic? Like compression? Except for having to transfer like 30-40 MB for each update it works great. :)

either lower the super sample setting or set the upload frame rate to a longer period.....or both :D

or use it only on a local network where bandwidth isn't an issue

I only have 2 computers here, one that is in pieces (and using a 366 MHz CPU doesn't make sense anyway). My more powerful computer isn't here, so I would definately want to use that one over the internet. I just rar'd an igi file, that reduced the size to around 70%... at least something.

Yes, I increased the upload frame rate.
Super Sample Setting? What's that?

A multiplier for image resolution. Brute force anti-aliasing, quite memory consuming. The setting resides in inifile.txt, beside Indigo's executable.

Oh, that means with a setting of 2 for a 1280x1024 image the resolution in the renderer would be 2560x2048? So rendering time for a 1280x1024 and a super sampling setting of 2 image would be the same for one with 2560x2048 and a super sampling setting of 1?

The very same. But in first case you will only see the 1280x1024, with anti-aliasing applied. So you may prefer to render at 2560x2048 with Super Sample @ 1...
