don't know if this is a known thing, but Indigo 8 stable seems to crash on large renders at much smaller pixel dimensions than earlier versions - version 8 test 2 will run a much larger output than the stable release. I have done up to 6600 x 6600 with test 2 and I couldn't get the stable version to run at 4800 x 4800 on the same scene. haven't tested versions in between much. I have read elsewhere that this kind of crash tends to be ram-related, but I've got 7 gigs installed and indigo doesn't come close to maxing it out at those sizes.
It would be great if these kinds of crashes could be avoided all together with the ram and extra cores of newer machines being able to handle much larger renders. possible?

ensure that you use super sample factor of 1, in each of your version tests!
You can grab a mesh free Scene File for max resolution testing here.
try some high resolution renderings using it, and check your RAM usage...
with 7gig of Ram you should reach 12000x12000 without a problem... please report back!
what OS do you use?
make sure to raise the threads in your inifile.txt just as high as your CPU/Core count is...

Indigo uses each core/cpu you can throw at it very nicely,FakeShamus wrote:It would be great if these kinds of crashes could be avoided all together with the ram

yeah I have checked through all these things trying to optimize. super sample factor is 1. /3GB switch is enabled, but I haven't noticed any difference. if it's true about indigo having a 2 GB limit regardless, then that may be the problem.
I have a mac pro that I was running bootcamp on but now I'm getting better performance using crossover - everything else works great by the way, but I've encountered the same problem using both. crossover is a bit better cause it uses all 4 cores of my machine where bootcamp with xp home only uses 2 of them. if only there were a way to get it to use all of my ram.
I am currently running a 6000 x 6000 image that's taking up 1.25 GB of ram and it's steady. maybe I just have to wait for a mac version.
