[bug] window focus [req] CLI only/no GUI

Post by dougal2 » Mon Apr 02, 2007 10:17 am

here's one thing that annoys me a little, funny how i only just thought to post here..

anyway, when indigo launches, usually the preview window appears under other windows, and clicking it's title in the task bar doesn't bring it to the front. i usually have to click back and forth between it and another window before it comes up.
sometimes then it takes more than one attempt to make it move also.

does anyone else experience this? is this a known bug? can it be fixed?

I'm using XP 64bit edition, btw

I had some trobbles with the preview, too... Don't know, if you mean those....
Sometimes, I had to bring it back to top, by task manager, 'cause it completely disapeared....
Sometimes (today, for example) I had the problem, that it wasn't there in the bar on the bottom of desktop... But when I minimized all the windows, it was there in the background and when I clicked it, the bar got actualized imediately...

it might be that i'm trying to focus it too quickly, right at the point where indigo is quite busy getting it's act together as the render thread starts.

actually, while i think of it, let me add a [req] aswell...

how about an option to disable all the GUI stuff - it would make running indigo on my network via SSH so much easier. (right now indigo won't work from an SSH (cygwin/bash) prompt - i have to use full-blown VNC)

Yup, Radiance is correct.
There will be a -nogui switch in the next release.

What GUI ? I never saw one for Indigo... What you guys call a GUI ? I know what these letters stand for, and that's my problem... is a title bar called GUI too ???

probably strictly speaking it's not the totally correct terminology (there's not much "interfacing" you can do with it), but to me the preview window counts as GUI - i.e. it's a windows interface, rather than a purely text-based command line (stdin/stdout) interface.

Gotcha ! thx dougal, I was surprised I missed something like that ;)

On the other hand I'd like to see the image updated in real time, that would be a real performance hog but also sooo beautyfull...

The window focus thing I've noticed too, but it's just a latency thing - indigo spend most of its time rendering, not PeekMessage'ing to see if you moved the window or focused it :)

What I found is it won't answer till all threads initialization is done. On Windows, just hover over the title bar. As soon as the arrow is back, you can move the window. If you click on the task bar, the window will be minimized (after initialization is done, again) as it is present by default.
