About freedom of speech ...

Post by enricocerica » Sun Mar 30, 2008 9:45 am

Hi all,

As I like to alternate the subjects, here is something quite different.

Modelled with Blender

Hands have been posed in Daz3D using Michael 3 and exported in OBJ to import them in Blender

Rendered with Indigo 1.08

Comments are of course welcome

Great image!

IMHO, you can make it even better - by allowing the cuffs and the left-hand coat sleeve rest lower on the arms. And for variation, try giving one or more of the fingers a more extreme bend.

Again . . . good job!

Hi Enricocerica,

Again this is amazing stuff.
The modeling, texturing and rendering is simply stunning.

I have a small remark to make though.....
This scene is a real photo. Ok...When reaching this kind of realism...what is the point not actually picking up a photo camera and taking a real picture of someone playing the piano with handcuffs?
I just mean that maybe something needs to be added to the scene that cannot exist in real life....
In that way, the viewer will think he sees a photo but is strangely surprised by a strange surreal artefact which makes him wonder 'what the hell...'.
I think that is the power of being able to render photoreal, namely surpassing the reality.

I don't know if my explanation is clear...the language barrier, you know

Anyway,
Besides the little remark, I bookmarked this thread as it is one of the most gorgeous renderings I ever saw. (I did the same with the robot thread ;) )

Regards,
Kwistenbiebel

He may not have two arms, a willing model with two arms, a black coat, a piano, a pair of handcuffs, good lighting, a good camera . . .

or, he may just want re-create a realistic, plausible, easily staged scene on a machine that manipulates electrons.

:D

Thanks for your comments,

I made some changes to improve it and I also put a Blender Screen shot.

@kwistenbiebel: Yep, you are fully right, some surrealistic taste would have add something to the "Just photoreal" feel, I tried to get that but I finally decided to just focus on the message, just if I took a shot.

So why not just taking a shot ? Just because I like this kind of challenge and to improve my skills. Don't know if the fact that this is made in CG would have another impact, maybe.

Hi enricocerica

strong image 8)

it reminds me of what Frederik Nietzsche say about what a Artist is " sombody who can dance in chains " ( dont know if the translation is correct  )
if i should critic somthing is the hand position ...... piano players always have their fingers a bit curved ( the first lesson you get when you learn piano "Fingers curved " )

Thanks Patricks,

I'm not a pianist, unfortunately :( But as stated by some other, the hand position is probably not perfect, even if I look some documentation to try to get them, but posing hands with Daz3D wasn't so easy. Anyway, playing with cuffs generates some stress and may not help on placing the hands correctly

actually what distracts most is the left hand ..... i would change the angle where the hand meats the wrist and make it more like you did it with the right hand and just give a bit curve to the left hand pointing finger and middle finger ........

come on ..... you can do it
anyway ... it is a great image :!:
