Hi guys.
I felt like some high-brow stuff after grappling with my pin-up. Here's a ZBrush sculpt, very losely modeled from an actual (and far more majestic) Cicero bust. I re-used a slightly modified base mesh I did earlier to start this up. The rest was just a lot of sculpting, and a little texturing. The mat is a blend of phong and SSS. Lighting a basic studio setup.
The new, improved Blendigo digested the whole 700,000 poly mesh without chocking, and Indigo 1.0.7 (64bits) rendered it like a charm.
Tiny bit of Pshoping for colour and contrast and smoothing out one or two rough edges (the original model was 3m polys so it lost a bit of smothness in the transition but nothing dramatic).

Truly impressive! The model is really life-like and the render is lovely! What was the rendertime?

Cheers JaMon, Kosmo.

Thanks Roger. This one didn't take too long despite the SSS. Probably because it's such a basic studio setting. It was about 8 hours on a Quad at 2400x1800 pixels. And it was pretty clean when I stopped it.

I hear you. Ivy would be nice. It would boost my polycount even more though... Mmmmh.

Looks nice as always BbB! I agree that ivy could make this more interesting.

Fantastic BbB.
Please upload to gallery!
The marble material is good, but not perfect.
However I have no idea what you could do to improve it :P

Very very good work :)

For me this material looks like plaster, marble is much more reflective, I remember you made test BbB, don't you?

jurasek: Thanks man. Here's a crop of the original.

suvakas: Hey Suv. You're very charitable. This piece was just rated as "bad" on ZBrushcentral and I got a bit of a bashing there. Definitely some way to go before I can produce a good sculpt.

OnoSendai: Cheers Ono. I'll upload it now. I'm not too sure about the marble either.

Vanessa07: I did try a more reflective version earlier, but it felt too much like plastic. I guess it's hard to find the right balance of IOR, Exponent and SSS. Also, I got a little marble statue at home which is very diffuse (more than this one) and a lot more transparent. I imagine it depends on how old and rugged the marble is, or how much it was polished. But you're right, this one could do with more work.

Really? Very strange.
This looks very much like a master piece for an average Joe like me.
What kind of artistic background do you have (if i may ask)? Have you learned sculpting/painting or something like that?

They have very high standards there ;-)

I'm not trained, but I used to do a lot of drawing and had a few minor stints as an illustrator back in the days. My work today has nothing to do with art so CG (like photography before) is a way for me to keep at it while avoiding the messiness and time-consuming side of traditional graphic art. (Though this Indigo addiction is getting quite time-consuming now.)

Wow, you have some great sulpt talents!! And very resembling (I met him in Roma last year :D ).

You should improve the marble material, not sure the phong is indicated. You previously posted a great image with marble shader, couldn't you use it ?
