Hey guys,
I modelled this guy in Blender and rendered in 1.0.3.
Trying to get a break from modern interiors. I'm not sure this is the right POV. The shape of the robot is quite hard to infer from the image. Anyway, it took more than 20 hours to render (at 2,400x1,800 with participating media) so I thought I'd post it before trying to cook another angle next weekend...

The shape is indeed hard to make out. Other than that, I thnk this looks promising. The texturing looks really cool.

I might take a look into Blender when I grow up.

Thanks Stinkie. Here's a Blender screengrab to help you understand what the hell it is you're looking at

So, it's actually 2 spider-like robots?

Yes, but of course I removed everything that was not in the shot before rendering to lighten up the geometry. But yes, essentially that's what it's supposed to be...

You really do like odd robot things. :D

Change the POV to be from one of the spiders, and add something reflecty so we can see that (the POVed) spider fighting back.

I love it. Every part of it. Cool robot, great texturing and materials. And I like the shot. Lovely :)

Cool render, I really like it also. Maybe you can have them fighting or something to add some story and movement to the picture. As it is it looks neat but it isn't really explaining a situation or inferring any drama. I think if you worked on the posing and composition it could really be a super nice picture.

Edit:
I just wanted to say that modern indoor scenes and room scenes of any kind really make me want to puke :P I don't get why people do so many renders of things they can turn there head and look at...

Hi Kram. Just because I'm too slow and always running one or two versions behind!

Actually, I prefer interiors. But I get sick of those too from time to time. Plus robots are great as modeling exercises.

Thanks a lot for the feedback guys. I agree Neo, I should work more on the pose and POV. As it is, it's not clear what this image is trying to say.

By the way, I've just finished putting a little site online with a small cross-section of my most recent stuff. If you've got five minutes to waste, have a quick look and let me know what you think. I'm going to refine this a lot in the next couple of weeks. I have absolutely no clue how to create a website and it shows. Something else I got to learn...

Phew. Just clicked through every image in the gallery (5 minutes, yeah right :D ), ranges from very good to brilliant :) I think it's a bit to far in the upper left corner, somehow that doesn't feel very harmonic to my eyes, maybe a bit more in the center of the browser window would be nice. Also the small text is a bit on the small side, and the font appears to be bold, not so sure if I would leave it that way. Other than that I think it's a pretty clean, nice design.

Ps: Do you earn a living with 3D?

Hi Kadajawi,
Thanks for the fast feedback. Yep, I rushed into putting it up quickly, but I agree it's really a wip. The window was centred in the app I used so I don't know why it's stuck to the left corner but it definitely bothers me too.

No, I don't earn my living with 3D. Right now the situation is more that I'm neglecting my well-paid job because of my 3D addiction

Still, I put this line there about "services" in case an oligarch runs across the page and feels like spending a million dollar on an orchid rendering. You never know!

   That's what I thought .... hehehe! ;o))

*THUMBS UP*

... for your 'quick' website. It's a good start, while I'm still hiding!

Cheers Oleg. Thanks for the feedback. Need to keep at it.

Here's a different angle on the robots (an earlier version with rougher models, basic mats, but the same pose)
