Plugs

Post by Roger » Sat Sep 16, 2006 5:07 am

Hi. This is my first post (well honestly it's my second) here, so.... HI!
Image
It was rendered within two hours with Indigo 0.5 and was modelled with Blender 2.42.
Comments, critique, tips and suggestions are highly appreciated.

I would like to use this threat for some questions:
- Why do all my renders have a pink-ish feel to it?
- Will it be possible in a future version of Indigo, to pause the render and continue rendering another time? Think this might be really really handy.
- Is there a good way to get rid of grain without needing to render it for days and days? I know of Neat Image who does this quiet good, but is there a better, perhaps even in Indigo inplanted way to get rid of grain?

Superb man!!! :D 8)
You should use some NK material for the metal next time :)

Good to see that kind of electric power plug (what is the real name of that?)
It's the best one :P Much more stylish and smooth that the American one :D hehe...

Keep up the good work!

Very nice image Roger!

Pinkish tint should be less in 0.6 when it's finished. For now, just do colour correction yourself.
Lots of people ask for pausing, it's complicated tho. perhaps i will add it sometime in the future.
set max_num_consec_rejections to 100 in inifile.txt to get rid of some of the fireflies( slight biasing)
Some crits on the image:
about the metal: it looks like you have a diffuse component on the phong. Don't have a non-zero diffuse colour for metals!!!
The wood looks fantastic, but i think it would be better with a little bit of glossy reflection - i think it should be a phong material.
I think if you do a few tweaks like this, and let it render overnight, you can achieve photorealism :)

yeah, very photorealistic render dude, nice!

Each of your questions could be answered very easy by using forum search,
but because your work is so nice, I'll still tell ya :D :

Ono just answered two of the questions...
About the Noise reduction, Neat Image is the baby to play with. LINK

Render time 14 hours. Had to do a lot of PS to get rid of noise and stuff.

Here's an update without you guys' critic for I didn't read it until now. I'm gonna read everything carefully and try and inprove it.

Ono-Sendai, I use Blender for exporting the XML, I don't know how to edit it and stuff. How do i get the biasing? To get rid of your fireflies.

Cheers

Ono slyly "forgot" to mention the aweful hack (that works!) for pausing indigo. Highlight some text in the console as it renders and it should stop processing (CPU usage should then drop to 0%).

Admitedly I haven't tried out this "technique" in the latest indigo versions - perhaps this little feature has been removed.

In case anyone else was confused about how to highlight text in the console, click on the far left icon in the titlebar->edit->mark. I tried it on .6t1 and it worked.

very nice pic roger, i'd say metal material could be more reflective or it is just the environment.

PS: koba, you can use Ctrl+s for pausing in case you don't know.

Thanks a whole lot radiance! I'm gonna try inproving it. I dunno how you changed the image, but I find it looking much better. I'm gonna rerender it with better materials, but before I do, how do I use HDR...

I've got a EXR HDR image, how do I apply it to the background?

Here's a test with Noise reduction: Used Noise Ninja and Neat Image to compare the two.

Try the Profile for NS you can find here, work like a charm!
by using this Profile, don't do any "auto" stuff in NS, it work the best way by default loaded values!

Have fun!
