Those old enough (or as old as I am) may rememer what this is.
This was basically an exercise to try hand-painted textures. It had to be a relatively simple model (Made in MoI using the same sphere-modelling method as for The Sentinel) that would UV unwrap cleanly. It ended up being quite heavy polywise, though, probably because of the many tiny little parts. The material for the main sphere is a blend of three mats using diffuse, bump and scratch maps and a mask for the chrome layer underneath, all painted in PShop using reference images from the web.
The corridor set for the background was also made in MoI and is an hommage to (or plagiarism of) the excellent Mike Verta and his famed R2 image. The material is simple white plastic.
All lit by meshlights on the ceiling. Rendered overnight in a QuadCore using 09t06.
Hope you like it.

Great!
Why do you think, younger ppl don't remember that? - Star Wars is a classic - you're a fool, if you haven't seen it , although you already had the chance to
I myself would make it looking more metallic, though
(Higher IoR, I'd say)
you could even try to make the colour a metal, via Tinman's nice tool

Thanks guys.
Kram: Glad you saw the movie. Indeed, everyone should have. I was six years old when I saw episode IV. It must have been my first time at the theatre.
On the remote, I tried to stay as close as possible to the stills I'd seen, although the actual model looks browner in real life and greyer on film. I might try different colour schemes. Leopard skin, maybe. When we get MPD.

I saw it several times - the first time with about the same age, I think
However, I can remember that remote, since the time before the last time, I saw the film
(Lol I can remember, when I started to remember - sounds sorta funny^^)
I'd like to see a "metal" version, though
The film was made in the "age of plastics" - EVERYTHING was plastic xD (everything, that was possible to make out of plastic) Today, that remote would have been rendered in Vray, Mentalray or any of them
(Maybe even in Indigo O.o xD)
