hey guys
just thought id submit this lens test i did a while back. left it burning for just over 15 hours with 5.6 ghz dedicated to it, i especially love the bending of the texture in the big lens. it still astounds me how accuratly indigo can plot light. outstanding stuff.

That's a nice one! Are the black edges normal smoothing problems, or is it just the rim of the lens blocking the light?

Yup, there are some major normal smoothing problems, sorry Matsta.

I love that caustics test
Add an Edge split modifier in blender and the problem should be gone

will try the edgesplit now
EDIT: hmm the edge split didnt fix the problem... are u sure those black edges arent from the fact that it isnt a closed scene, ie its reflecting the background colour (black) if edgesplit should have fixed the problem then smoothing wasnt the issue

haha. ull have to ask ono, i really have no grasp on the concept of time

with a time machine and some well placed indigo rendered memories anything is possible... even sparta

Ah, good point.
Try making the scene background a nice red colour. Then red edges = rays escaping to the background, black = normal smoothing screwups.

hehe well you were rite about the lens error, my tacky modelling :S the edgesplit didnt fix anything and the background red didnt take the place of the black so it was indeed an error. i still think it looks good though

You should subdivise the lens meshes, add some edge loops on the circumference close to the rim, or subdivide. One of these or a combination should get rid of the blackness.
(Your renders are so clean! How long did they cook?)

um, the lens scene rendered for like 15 hours and the water cornell was for a day or so.
all you need is time
