Steve's Apples

Post by Headroom » Wed Oct 10, 2012 9:07 am

Every time I want to post a render in this section the header "Finished Artwork" makes me a little hesitant.
I would not necessarily call my renders artwork and nothing is ever really finished

Anyway, as a sort of commemorative effort for Steve Jobs I decided to see how an idea that I have had for a while would pan out and so I had a little creative fun with the Apple logo as part of one of my LED lighting systems.

I've started a little blog that will explain to some degree what goes into making these.http://trippylighting.com

I really like the shadows it projects, and the caustics that have bounced around inside the metal and glass :) Nice work!

Thanks!

I am not sure you had time to check out my little blog. If you scroll down on the home page it shows a photo of a system as installed in my house.

I made sure to model the LEDs as accurately as possible based on the info found in the spec sheets. I's actually quite an accurate simulation, not just some rendering.
I used Indigo to design the optical parts in front of the LED. and then transferred that back into my to CAD, so I had a very good idea how the light pattern on the round diffuser plates would look like. The first and only renderings I made were on a brick wall. Just seemed a good idea to me. I really never saw the pattern on the wall until I had the thing installed. It adds quite a bit to the overall appearance.

Yup. As I said before, Indigo has other uses then just pretty images. Every time I render one of these I find myself modifying the lighting of the environment as the colors cannot possibly look that intense.

Then I step away my monitor which is located directly under one of these lighting systems and I find that that the colors are more intense on the " real thing" than I thought.

The colors of the rendering in the banner actually only look that faded when there is bright sunshine outside. They are already more intense than in the render when it is overcast outside.
