Lighting/modeling Exercise
Re: Lighting/modeling Exercise
Pibuz,
I should not really be answering for StompinTom, but the latest software is:
Blender 2.49b
Blendigo 2.4 update 2
Indigo 2.4.13
There is a Blendigo beta version for Indigo 2.6.1 beta available in the respective forum thread. Also only works with Blender 2.49b.
The "latest" Blender version 2.56 beta does not yet have a functioning Blendigo equivalent, however, if you are a Blender newbie I would recommend to check it out as well. It has a nicer and easier to grasp interface and will ultimately replace the Blender 2.4 version.

So I see you recommend the stable configuration as a solid base. But I'm a quite risky man I must say
Should I try to use Indigo 2.6.1, the corresponding blendigo and Blender 2.49b?
No chance I can use Blender 2.56, because there is no proper exporter yet, did I get it right?
Thank you a lot!
Re: Lighting/modeling Exercise
I have not personally tried it, but if you read through the Blendigo for Blender 2.5 thread some user(s) has(have) tinkered around with the Python scripts and got Blendigo 2.5 to work with Blender 2.5 versions other than the one it was intended to work with. I don't think it works right out of the box though.Pibuz wrote:

I don't think there is any danger in using the latest beta Blendigo and the respective Indigo. I am not sure though that these work in parallel with the stable versions. It may be am either or thing.

Re: Lighting/modeling Exercise
@Pibuz: Here is the workflow Im doing at the moment with blender. Unfortuantely there is no working blendigo for blender 2.5 because the python api is changing every release which makes it hard to keep blendigo updated at the moment. So I have blender 2.5 and 2.49 installed, working in 2.5 creating the whole scene (because 2.49 sucks compared to 2.5). The whole data is saved in a 2.5'er file, than you create as well a 2.49 file and link all data from 2.5'er file to 2.49 file and save it as well. So you are able to work in 2.5 and if you want to render something just open the 2.49'er file which loads all data from 2.5'er file because of the link, there you can render it.
Sorry don't wont to get offtopic: Awesome renders, especially the last one. Most time I don't like clean interiours but the lighting in your renders are great.

Hi Pibuz! Glad that Headroom could give you some pointers, sorry for not answering sooner!Pibuz wrote:Ehi Thom: technical question.
I'm trying to explore a little the blendigo world: which versions of Blender, Indigo and Blendigo are you using? I'm looking for a quite stable release, but I'd like to have the latest software platforms too..
I'm currently using Indigo v2.6.2 (the latest and the greatest) for serious work with the latest Blender 2.49b Blendigo exporter (the exact version number escapes me at the moment...). I still find Blender 2.49b more appropriate for serious modeling as it has some scripts and functions that 2.5 doesn't yet have (beveling, certain kinks in mesh subdivisions, GeomTools scripts, etc. etc.) so I use it as my main modeler.
Jumping in with 2.49 won't be a waste of time, you'll get to learn the Blender-to-Indigo workflow and, if anything, the 2.5 exporter will only make things easier. For comparison, my Blender/Vray workflow consists of modeling everything in 2.49 then opening the scene in 2.5 (saving a new duplicate, of course, just in case) and then assigning materials, render settings for Vray. Having all settings integrated into the UI in 2.5 is amazing, and I can't wait for the 2.5 Blendigo builds!
All in all, I'd greatly recommend using Blender and Indigo as it's a pretty solid combo at the moment!

Blender 2.49b x64
Python x64 2.6.1
Blendigo 2.6.13
Indigo 2.6.1
All works very well together.

Thank you guys!
So, as a starter stable basis I should go with:
1. Blender 2.49b
2. Indigo 2.6.1
3. Blendigo 2.6.13

Actually not quite correct, you can run Blender without having Python installed, but you won't be able to run scripts like the Indigo exporter.Doug Armand wrote: Yep thats right and Python is the programming language used by Blender. Can be got from here http://www.python.org/
