The timber texture looks great! Nice bump and subtle reflection on that. The floor seems a bit too flat... maybe a stronger bump map?

you could try a exponent map... its way more subtle then bump... give it a try, just to see the result!

Some things I would like to nitpick on ;-)

- thestones on the back wall... the black one... they look very shiny... like oil... Why not using blend between diffuse & phong for rougher look, like the great wood in the front?!
- the green surrounded boar skin on the right... looks wired... green?!
- the floor and wall wood are quite the same... basically you don't do this in architecture often, do you?
- the Katanas on the wall right... looks like this is a table stand that gets placed on the wall.
- the tulips on the floor look quite dark... try blending them with a Diffuse Transmitter with the same texture to bright up a little and let some light pass through them

Besides this a great first render, congrats!!!

Superb timber textures in the foreground and very nice work overall, I hope that you are planning to add this image to your portfolio any soon !

Did you displace the surfaces in Max ?

Tulips ?

I thought there might be an Indian Sumer going on outside and these are fall leaves blown in through the door.

Very nice concept BTW. Really gives the image a special atmosphere.

A Exponent map is a map that controls the exponent of the material via a texture (or shader).
In general The Exponent is value from glossy (low exponnet) to sharp reflections (high Exponent) of a phong material.

Controlling sharpness of the reflections via a map can generate some welcome visual imperfection to reflective objects without altering them too much (like with bump maps).
Perfect Glass like floors are simply unrealistic, here using a bummap texture for Exponent map helps selling the image :)
