Trees, grass, rocks, free goodies and fireflies...

Post by BbB » Mon May 19, 2008 7:47 pm

I was playing with the time-limited trial version of XFrog the other day and I came up with these: A small citrus tree and a parody of an oleander, which I both needed for the bigger scene (more about this one when we get the shift lens).
I've also made a patch of grass which can be used as instance to cover large areas. It's better than alpha planes if you want to render your scene from different angles, and it's not much heavier polywise. Finally I added a few rocks for fun.

I've decided to release all these model in the attached archive. It includes both trees, the rocks, the grass and all the required texture maps (the oleander is not mapped, only the citrus tree). Not included is the surrounded building and ground. The maps are not all mine, so please don't go around redistributing them. Otherwise, feel free to use the models as you please.

As you can see, I suffered a big firefly attack here. So I decided to take a break and re-render the full scene as soon as Ono has fixed that problem (If that helps, I used pathtracing only here).

That's it. Enjoy.

Thank you Bbb: you're so kind!

**EDIT**
..sorry to bother, but i've just seen that the uncompressed obj is something like 15MB, and it seems quite impossible for me to import in SU  ..
..so...would you be so kind to post the grass obj only?

Sorry, for slight OT, but...

Have you had success exporting this to indigo ? I know it's possible by converting to geometry first, but how do you deal with the shaders ? I find most of the colour detail gets lost.
Reply in the Maya forum if you wish ;)

Colours in pfx are ramps and iff texture files. Indigo takes none of them, you need to export the texture yourself (including alpha maps from iff for null blend).

I'd have to own Maya. And then I'd have to learn it ;-)

Xfrog trees are good. But the ready-made ones often need serious poly reduction before they're usable.

Bertrand,

I finally got around to trying out your (as usual) beautiful trees and grass that you've graciously released.

Problem - some of the leaves reference a texture that is not included in the texture pack you uploaded with them - "LeavesTropical0131_2_S" and "B"

Oh and the flower textures - I can see them referenced in blendigo, but they're not included.

Can you make that available? (If not it's quite alright :))
