dragon head
dragon head
A quick little model I put together while I was waiting for a render to finish. The quick model came out better than the render I was doing and had spent ages on modelling. This head only took about an hour to model, another hour to uv map it ( I hate uv mapping, its never simple). And I managed to get the material pretty good on the first try. The horns are a bit too clean looking I know. I should try and build the entire body for it, one day. I would like some crits on it, but for now I am finished with it.

Nice! An idea popped in my head when you said you were done with it for now but you might try to model a body....
Maybe an easier task to take on but still similar to dragons: model a dragon egg?
(idea goes somewhat like)...A creepy egg near a cave thing, use SSS on it and have the dragon baby inside glowing.
Just some ideas that I thought I should share.
Dragons are still a myth, right? So nobody can say the dragon baby can't glow if they never saw one.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Its weird, I spend ages doing a careful model and it comes out all wrong. But then I do a quick little model with no references and it comes out ok. I must admit that this is the 4th dragon I have done since starting with blender, a dragon was the very first model I ever did. They have all been quite lame until this one. Don't know why I am always modelling them, I don't really have a fascination with dragons or fantasy stuff. I actually prefer looking at the real looking images like what BbB does, but I find it boring to model them myself. I am more inspired doing weird little images.
Kram1032 : The sad look is one of the things I am happy about, it was intentional. I was feeling a bit like that at the time that I did the model.
Ono; bump would help with the horns, I also think that a bit of yellow staining around the base would help. I will get back to this model and try a few things.
Wedge: Actually thats sounds like a cool concept, I have seen something similar to that on cgsphere. A egg with backlighting and the siloette of a dragon showing thru. But I bet indigo would do a better job of it. Thats what I like about indigo, the materials are based on real world type materials. no having to come up with little hacks or techniques for simulating materials. As the materials are already based on real world materials. But I like the concept that you suggested.
