I require your assistance....Again!!!

Post by avp216 » Mon May 30, 2011 5:46 am

Hello once again!

I have arrived to buy you all once more, with more questions!

Dun dun daaaaa!

To the point!

I have a scene in Cinama4D (r12) which involves the following.

1. A sky (Created using the built in function of... Create a sky :P
2. A floor (With a material placed on top to mimic the ocean (bump map, etc)
3. Clouds (once again, using the built in function.

I tried rendering it with indigo, but the only thing that appeared to be rendered was the sky.. no cloud, no ocean, no nothing. just a blue sky.

How can i solve this problem?

On a second note,

I added a glowing material to an object, but yet, it doesn't glow in indigo.

Your help would be much appreciated :)

Thanks!

While I don't know C4D I would, believe based on my experience with other exporters and 3D applications, namely Blender and Sketchup I would say that often built-in functions of 3D applications are mostly affecting only their internal render engines.

Material settings that are for the internal render engine may not automatically translate into anything useable for the exporter and you may have to redefine the materials again using the exporter's functions.

Exactomundo, this was also the mistake here!

Cindigo does a "on-the-fly-indigo-translation" of the C4D materials, but it is not perfect and won't be! So you end up with the need for Indigo materials anyway ...

avp216 wrote:1. A sky (Created using the built in function of... Create a sky :P
First mistake! You define a Sky, HDRI or background whatever via "Indigo Advanced Options" in der C4D Render Settings.
Just add it like you would Add Ambient Occlusion to a scene.

This actually could work with a plane (normals up) and the correct Specular material with IOR @ 1.32 or even better a SSS water material from the Mat DB.

Nope, no clouds availible for Indigo atm!

Cindigo doesn't export the C4D "Ground" Object (you used for the water)

Do you even use Indigo materials?? You create them go in the C4D Materials overview on the Bottom and there "File > Create new Indigo Material"

The Cindigo Manual explains all that very nicely and the Cindigo Tutorial gives insight to the very first steps, get both here: http://www.indigorenderer.com/documentation/cinema4d

Oh God >.<

I am so embarrassed!

I saw the indigo material button, but i never thought i needed it.... Apparantly, that is probably why nothing works eh? :P

Ah, no clouds huh? Oh well, i shall use picture clouds.

So from now on, whenever i render using indigo, it would be prefered to use indigo materials right?

I assume the materials support bump mapping and the sort?

Thank you once again :)

Cindigo tries to convert everything possible on the fly during export, but this is rather a compatibility feature and just a few things are supported...
So try to build your scene Indigo conform with camera tags, subdiv tags and Indigo Materials etc. to get best control over your result.

Use HDRI images (in LatLong, EXR File Format) for clouds and some awesome lightning! Simply create a material, put the map into the emission tab, change to uniform and raise the power up to 10k. Drag that Material into the Envoirement Material in the "Indigo Render Setting" second Tab... done!
avp216 wrote:So from now on, whenever i render using indigo, it would be prefered to use indigo materials right?
Exactly, for optimal and tweakable results use indigo materials. For a existing Scene you can convert the existing materials to Indigo counterparts, but this is just a "start" to define you materials and the result is just a simple first step.

Correct! C4D shaders get backed to Texture during Export too. There are even some Indigo ISL based shaders to choose from.

No Problem, helping is the target in the "Indigo Help" Subforum

Just take care to go through the manual and the tutorial scene(s) first,
to prevent questions that are covered by that documents before posting...
