sharing internal medium between materials

Post by lrne » Thu Sep 09, 2010 9:36 pm

Hi all,

I want to create an object with different materials on its faces (for example a glass with one rough side (glossy specular) and one specular side).
What I have done until now is to define two materials in two .igm files, definying in each file the internal medium properties. The two media in each files have the same properties.
Then ,I use 3dsmax multi/sub-object materials with a link on my two .igm file and export to Indigo via Maxigo. But, the rendering is not what I've expected: My material seem to have no transparency, in particular.

I have thought it was because I redefine the internal media in each material file. Is this possible?
For that reason, i am looking for a way to share a medium between two materials. Is it possible to define my media in an independent igm file and to include it in each of my material file? How can I do so?

Thanks for your help,

Lrne

Hello,

I do this all the time and it works well.

You have two options:
- Define the SAME medium with the SAME medium name in both material igms. This is not possible to change the medium name in the material editor, so you need to edit manually the medium name and the medium reference.
- Define the medium in one material and do not redefine it in the second one, only referencing the medium. You need also to do this manually by editing the XML. However, you need to ensure that in the final XML scene code, the igm containing the medium is included BEFORE the second igm not containing the medium.
