Cake Scene

Post by arneoog » Thu Nov 09, 2006 5:55 am

I started making this little scene, modelled in Maya and I was happy :)
Untill I started rendering it... :(

The glass is totally screwed, I think it may be a polyNormal problem in the Maya exporter...
But what is wrong?....... it is always that reflective (IOR around 1.3)
Also the phong and NK materials are very dark.
The scene is containing three Meshlights and a light background color, which not is showing....
Everything is just really messy :(
(The cake color isn't fixed)

Help!

Been testing for over an hour... It's not the BG light
And I don't have any .exr images.. Non that Indigo can use that it.
But the glass problem is the biggest.
I'm going to make a super simple glass scene and check...

Here it is..
There is clearly something wrong going on here :?
It is created in the new Nick way.

Image
IORglass = 1.2 IORliquid = 1.28
One Meshlight, no other light. (6200 tris)

Is this a normal issue? (created by the exporter?)

EDIT: everything is working fine when I set normal_smoothing to False...
EDIT2:

EDIT3: seems like I solved it :D

EDIT4: Yepp, It's fixed!! :D

there is no way to model/render liquids in a glass entirely correctly in any released version of Indigo.
Depending on how this new technique works out, the next version should have support for this.

The same problem is on the coke bottle..
I just used a IOR of 1.02 :?
The error is that the normals was turned inside out :)

I'm going to do one more tests though... just to be 100% sure..

EDIT:
The right one is what the Maya Exporter was creating/exporting before..
The left one is what the script is crating/exporting now :D
