Church Interior

Post by amasinton » Wed Jan 30, 2008 11:19 pm

Below is my first Indigo render. It's a WIP interior of a church, obviously. No materials other than diffuse white right now.

However, I think it's obvious that I've got some trouble with my mesh. Any suggestions?

The geometry was generated in Vectorworks, exported to C4D and then again with Cindigo.

Thanks!

@amasinton

Welcome aboard! And I hate to say it, I guess Vectorworks works the way
like Autocad which does not care a bit about topology and creates a lot of
coplanar faces and crappy models. So please check your model in C4D.
Check for normals and coplanar faces ... I wish you best of luck, you'll
need it! :cry: :roll: :wink:

Though, it will help to look at those places, where the image shows errors (obviously) ;)

Thanks for your quick and helpful comments, everyone.

I've solved the problem. It was indeed a problem of coplanar faces. Vectorworks doesn't seem to know or care about normals or coplanar faces and exports a slightly problematic mesh. The answer seems to be to turn all 3d elements into generic solids and then export. They export with no coplanar faces and the normals aligned. I tried this on the element that was the wall of the church in the render and the attached Indigo render is the result.

Now, to go through the hundreds of other elements...

Thanks for your help, everyone. Indigo and the community are both excellent resources - and special thanks to Fused for Cindigo. It makes my life much easier!

@amasinton

You're very welcome! And later on use exit portals for the
openings and the noise will clear much faster! :D ;)
