Homage to Nile

Post by supraserv » Fri May 11, 2007 6:08 am

A simple column hall and the river Nile at the end of it. Started texturing it today. Find the textured detail :-)

Ono: Thanks. Im proceeding with textures. Have some troubles with bump which applied to diretly lit columns produces very sharp border between light and shadow. Lower bump exponent limits that effect. I need to explore it more.

zsouthboy: Give yourself an overnight render... :-)

A bit more textured. Some artifacts caused by compression.

Nice !
But the green leaves are too green, too saturated to my opinion.

A bit of an update. Almost managed to get rid of the hard edged shadows on columns. I have a bit of trouble with .png format. It is not accepted by indigo (using 0.8 t 2) saying that the file is not proper png file. Tried to save from Gimp, ArtWeaver and even inkscape. Always the same.

Scaled down by 33%

nice modeling.

but i think the textures are way too clean (especially the green) and the other textures look a bit too "sandy" (not really like stone, even if it was sand-stone [or whatever that is called]).

Saturated colors are making it look like an illustration from a childrens book.
If that's the goal, then it looks very good. If it has to be realistic, then yeah..it is too colorful.

But I think that it suits the mood very nicely. Keep going !

Updated after a strong battle with bumps and normals. Will have to change the waves on the bases and stars to make them look less american.

As to the bumps and sharp shadows. This is all due to that bump and smoothing + sharp light can't stand each other. It probably appears in most of rendering apps but people seem not to spot this for some reason. I came across this problem on Maxwell forum today and it was raised by one of users, however also there it was not explained nor cure was suggested.

Indigo is awesome, I think.

I think, the ripples are just fine :D
but I'd like to see the floor and cbc :D

do you know, what's strange about that pic?

look "outside": you clearly can see a flash.
but there is an other way, to look outside:
Also those small, narrowl (argh, I can't find the word, atm :?)s at the top give light.
And? It's blue! a fresh sky...

Maybe, there is a flash-exr somewhere out there, or you could add flashes, there, too...
you even could model a huge sphereoidish SSS-object, that more or less simulates storm-clouds :D

..small...narrow...gaps?

How about smoothing the water a bit since what reason would there be for ripples in that room unless something is agitating it? It would also be nice to see the nile image on the wall reflected more clearly in the water...
