i : the wip

Post by CTZn » Wed Feb 07, 2007 10:11 am

So all started with that idea of a self connected "i", but i did the first mesh with topmod and messed it up at the end. I decided to do some test anyway, the stripe being lambertian and white. The light setup was totally wrong

Then I fixed the light setup, I found it was ok if there was burn since the light was very close.

Image
About the same material as above

----

Then ok the mesh was OT so I did one from scratch, introducing a sphere generated by Indigo cut by a box filled with air.

Image
Sun ans sky with turbidity=15

Image
An almost-not-transparent material

There I told myself something was wrong, maybe the normals of the box... It is not smoothed normal wise

----

Then I imported the new scene into the former setup but messed up with the pixel ratio, and the connection was obviously too thick.

Image
Er... some sort of rubber ?

----

So I started over with the "i" again, having a too large loop this time :? I had to increase the radius of the sphere and it escaped the box of air !

Image
Around 580 mut/pixel. Say it's stained glass :-)

----

Everything rendered with Indigo 0.7t3, althought I didn't use a t3 specific feature here.

I hope you enjoyed the tour !

Cheers

That was fun ! BTW the scene originated with Radiance's thread about a new logo for Indigo.

The idea is to have a model wich could be both a logo and a scene for test renders.

Obviously, here the absorption is very strong, and the ior weak (1.05). It's some gel, rather.

The idea is very good!
You can improve it a bit (decrease the absorption...)
Also, I don't think, it's a problem, that the air cube is too small! these semi circles are looking good as well...
Maybe just get rid of the part, floating above the top of it, although it's nice as well. But since the rest is linked, it would be somewhat better to "stay connected" ;)

That shape was an accident, but the image is still cooking (until recently I had to reboot my computer after 24h of internet connection, now the issue is gone :D). It's just above 10 000 muxels !

I've started a new model, but since I'm a quite lazy person it's in the fridge for now ;)

Thank you for the comments :)

BTW can you see the images ? They are not loading today, yesterday they were. Just checked the website where they are hosted, it's up... maybe I trespassed some upload limit :(
