@kikeonline:
This looks great, I like your style with these neon emitters!

@matsta:
Do you use Cinema 4D? If not, can you recognize something out of the IGS-file?

Ok my attempt at a simple yet realistic water jug is... a jug with water

All modelling/setup done in Blender 2.48.

Minor tweaking in Photoshop...basically only noise reduction, the coloured noise in the water is the main problem, and resize for web - oh and placing the Indigo logo 'cos I forgot to watermark the image

BTW is this thread where we post for the competiton?

Hmmm - becuase they both have a water jug and window frame maybe?

Guess theres only so much you can do with it - I could have placed in on a plain white background I guess? - oh wait I think thats been done too!

Actually my first take on this was going to be a water jug in the desert - but then I remembered the brief was 'simple and realistic' - didn't think that this would be very realistic

BTW I think your window frame is better than mine

In front of an old window frame, indeed.

And I think, your glass material is much better than mine!

May I ask you what cauchy_b_coefficiancy-value you used?
Are there any tables on the internet where I can find the correct values for the chromatic abberation for specific media like water, glass, diamonds etc.?

For the glass I used I used 0.0040 and a IOR of 1.52, and I got these settings from the Luxrender preset for glass  , and IOR of 1.33 for the water and no Cauchy_b.

Whats the deal with everyone doing near on identical scenes "_" . Note for benn, for the future, broader competition subject (ie toys was great) otherwise this is gna get edgy. imo.

Looks good though armand.

My IORs are the same, and I didn't use any cauchy for the water either. :-)
Thank you!

I might be a very good idea to copy a few values from luxrender materials...

Thanks and I agree with you and so will redo mine and go with my original idea of a desert scene - have to hope it isn't seen as too 'unrealistic'

will post an update soonish

The deal seems to be people doing minimal efforts for originality, or not aknowledging that they are under influence, ie have an intoxicated imagination. I agree that's rudely said but that intoxication is only a consequence of our "picture civilisation", or, in a wider acceptation, "instant society" (sorry for the poor instant translations ;)).

Now Doug armand I want to tell you that my idea for an entry was involving a desert-ish environment, though both the subject (beside the conceptual contrast of water and dry-ness) and the planned vantage point will with no doubt be different.

And, I haven't started yet, though I have the picture clear in mind ;)

edit: as a proof of my good fee, and to free your mind a bit because I was harsh; here is what I can state on my hypothetical image:

- There will be no vegetation involved (hah scratch this one, the viewing angle will not be as drastic as I imagined because I want some sticker to be readable. I'm putting an option on vegetation)
- two kinds of metals should be used
- no glass, but some plastic
- a bit of strap
- heavy sss
- no emiting shaders (skylight obviously)
- ...

cheers

Nonetheless there are some good inputs here already.

Well can't say I was 'influenced' by the other window/jug image as I had already started mine when it was posted - but what the hell I guess you've only got my word for that haven't you? 8)

Personally I'll be very surprised if anyone comes up with an original idea as there are very few left in the world.

Please also note that although the desert idea was first posted by me... I don't mind if you use it as these competions are really just for a bit of fun

I second stromberg :)

And... my project is a direct allegory of a real situation found in some countries on this planet, not involving a desert per say ;)

I agree that you mentioned a desert first, and that's why I answered asap to position myself; I would also agree that you and only you Doug Armand is in the best position to use this environment for the... competition.

You can't imagine how much I dislike the term... "call for production" or something akin would please me a lot more...

As for ideas... by nature they should not be considered property of somebody, only realisations driven by ideas should. edit: to elaborate more on this topic: we are too keen to use other's realisations (that's the job of advertising), often without having a sense of criticism properly arised (idem); this is the door through wich contamination of the mind enters; criticism is an intellectual antibody against that alien will, wich, as we could witness, are finally using your own force for their own interest.

Peace (on Earth) !
