Your post makes me feel less ashame to render and stop and try another render method to see if it is better or not and the restart again, and etc...
There is no reason to feel ashamed at all, if you are inclined to dig into the topic just go for it, I did that a lot and still was some days ago
I can see a few reasons why sampling methods are not exposed much:
- First and above all, it's easy to screw'em up and complain all over the planet about how terrible were your results with Indigo. Newbies happen... Indeed they can be used for the
good
or for the bad.
- Their response is scene dependent. Most often the Indigo factory settings will do great, sometimes tweaks may help.
- Not many people are understanding them fully (and I'm not amongst them). I for one believe that it would be usefull to have the concepts beneath exposed trivially, since sampling methods are tools that may be used at some point for a good purpose.
