That's what I was thinking. I'll keep going with out rendering the ivy for now, but I'll need to do something for my final render.
[edit] For my beams and doors, how much modeling is recomended? If I use planks for the door should I just model the planks and leave it at that? or should I model every little detail in wood? or even just uv map a plane?

I've been trying out textures the last few days, but I'm not very good at unwrapping and need help with the main "house" object. How would you guys unwrap this?

Thanks!
(if another pic is needed to see the object better just ask)

You should first make seams at some positions. What you have to get rid of are loops, because thats where the unwrapper bugs most.
For example you take a ring. If you just unwrap it, it will make problems. If you make a seam in the ring, it will unwrap to a simple straight line.
Do them in positions where they aren't as visible. For example when you have a windowframe, then make seams to cut it out of the wall. Then cut the loop you made with a seam in one of the top corners.
Make seams in corners you mostly don't look at. For example if the corners are behind the camera or there is an object in front of it or whatever. Make seams between wall and ceiling and floor (they probably have different textures anyway).
