Uh, 'not sure I understand correctly the first point ...
.exr is an image file format.
The .exr image is projected on a environnement sphere around Your scene for light calculation (don't know exactly how)

For the second point, there is many tutorials/howto on the web ...
try http://www.google.fr/search?hl=fr&q=how ... ogle&meta=
on google, for example. :)

But You can render an hdri through a render, or grab ton of on the web also.
Just take a look on the Blender site, there is a "ressources" section where You coul'd find some hdri ... er ... ressources ! :D

I've also seen some threads in this forum about hdri ressources ...

try http://www.indigorenderer.com/joomla/fo ... um.php?f=7

Basicly, an hdri image is made with at least tree images of the same point of view (Special function on Your Camera called "bracketing" required, which give You the ability to take a given number (at least 3) of pictures at the same shot, or a tripod and tree separate shots), where each picture is taken at different exposure settings. (oh God, 'hope my english is not too bad ... )

Photoshop or other speciallized apps can compile and eventually compress these shots in a result which is the .hdri or .exr image format (low-mid-high exposures pictures mixed in one format). (hmm ... Don't know if there is a compression option in .hdri format ... But sure in .exr)

If a real expert read that answer, correct me if I'm wrong ... please. :)

I mean, I'm just a hobbyist for now, by the way ... ;)

That's really better ! ;)
How much time for the render ?

I think the transparent plastic of the pen maybe need more render time, that will wipe out the little noise in it.

Great wood tex ! Where does it come from ? custom shot ?

I'll be looking for Your next threads. :D

...
Well, in that case ...

I've read in other threads that some tips can improve the rendering speed ...
... to use the command line instead of the GUI or set Your objects scale at a tiny factor corresponding with a scale in the real world ...
One Blender unit = 1 meter.

Hope that it helps a lot ... :?
