Lighthouse scene

Post by mzungu » Tue Oct 10, 2006 3:41 am

So my Father-in-law painted this lighthouse scene that now hangs in our bathroom, and I got to thinking that I'd like to attempt to produce an "artistic" lighthouse scene using CG to see how it might compare. Well, I've been tinkering with the scene in blender and just last friday began to export to indigo for test rendering.

This is just the beginning of things - working on basics, like composition, modeling, basic materials/colors, and general lighting. I'm gonna be taking my time with this WIP (its my first to "publicly" display) since I have some other projects going that are a higher priority for me right now.

Anyhow, here's what I've got so far:

I ran this render over the weekend using 0.6test1 (only just saw the newer releases! Cool!) but forgot to write down the time & mutations prior to closing it this morning (that's not logged anywhere is it?). It baked on my work's dual-proc Xeon 3.02ghz for roughly 2 1/2 days. The jpeg artifacts don't do justice to the awesome subtle indigo shading/lighting nuances! (Love this renderer!)

I "borrowed" the basic house mesh from google sketchup and added the tower myself. Its of my own design, but is roughly modelled after the Cape George Lighthouse. As you can see, there's still some modelling to be done and lots of texture work. I intend to add a smattering of conifers, too, when I find a good generator.

I'm open to input, since things are still so preliminary in the work...

Looks awesome. If you haven't rendered anything since then, the log.txt in indigo's root should contain your log and shows everything you see in the console (assuming that logging is enabled in your inifile.txt).
