tbh, Violet isn't really suited to multithreaded calculation, since each process needs to be done in a set order on the image.
Afaik, tonemapping is one analysis step and then one conversion step. The only thing you have to do is to complete the analysis step before you finish the conversion step. But the analysis and conversion itself can be split into my different threads!
Histogram calculation can be made multithreaded as well.

I think the reason that it doesn't run for some of you is to do with the .NET frameworks.
Making sure that your machines are up to date is all I can really suggest to you.
re: multithreading... it's not going to happen. Not in my builds anyway - it'd require a major re-structure of the way the program works.

What should i download or install to get the latest?
I installed something called ".NET Framework Version 1.1 Redistributable Package" from Microsoft site, but it didn't help.

I know that it would be lots of work and that it is probably not practical to do it. I just wanted to point out that it would be possible.

Ok. I got Frameworks 2.0. It didn't help. Still crashes.
I cant install 3.0 without going to SP2. I had problems with SP2 last time i installed it so I'm not going to try it again.
Hey dougal, can't you compile it without this frameworks sh*t? The latest "official" Violet worked fine for me even with your patch applied.
What is this .NET thing anyway?

I guess it's the missing SP2. Having SP2 installed is required by most up-to-date applications nowadays...
I also had problems with the explorer when I first installed SP2 but with all the other patches for windows installed as well. Everything works fine!

suvakas: does R12P1beta2 work OK for you?
for the time being I will still be able to compile beta3 using my other development environment (dev-cpp)... only then there will be 3 different versions of b3ta3 available

(possibly 4 if I can compile it on linux too) confusing or what??
*sigh*
If all else fails we will have to wait for Ono to build the binaries instead.

Beta2 starts Ok and i can see the program and the interface, but it crashes during the opening of the *.igi file. The bar on the bottom says: "Processing: 1/12 completed" and then it crashes.
But nevermind. I get that this is happening because i dont have all the latest and greatest patches and packs. I can live on without Violet knowing, that this is because of me and my system. But i'm not going to install Sp2 into my perfectly stable and fine Op sys to get possible problems again. I still need to run other things as well
But thanks for trying to help!
Maybe it starts working if Ono compiles it. We'll see.

quick testing progress report:
1. i'm getting the same errors as joe trying to run b3 under wine
2. b2 works under wine but is very slow
3. i've not tested b3 on my other xp machines yet - i've been too busy with:
4. successfully* compiled b3 under linux natively - although the GUI is buggy (tabs are missing, and the image doesn't show), and the processing thread is prone to crashing (seg. faults). (* in so far as I produced a binary which ran, but the program doesn't work properly).
so. there. If I knew more about what I was doing perhaps a) I'd know how to solve these problems, or b) I wouldn't have these problems at all.
