I'm not sure how big an emerald usually is but I think in that case scale may be the issue, I'm guessing the bigger your object is the darker it'll get until it becomes opaque.

). and I am able to see through it, of course its not very clear but the material is definitely transparent.

Actually if you model it to the size it should be in real life you should be fine. I do believe the default Blender unit = 1 meter. So by taking that into account when you're modeling things should turn out fine.

the imported material you took from the MatDB has <uv_set> to uv.
Change this value in the igm to default and it should work

@3dGeek: ZomB beat me to it. Its simpler to call your Blender uvset "uv" instead though, i think.
