Glass\Grass

hey guys!
question,
lets presume i am trying to make a colorful glass, when i make the glass i know ill put it on glossy transparent\thin glass and then just play with the Opacity to form more color or less, is that a right way to work with it?

and another question cuz im really annoying:
there was a grass making tutorial few days back... but i thought about it.. isnt it easier to take the "rug" material from the basic sketchup materials and just displace it with subdivisions? i mean ti woks fine just changing the color from Brownish Grey To Olive Green

For creating realistic grass I use the furmaker plugin for sketchup. Use one patch of grass and scatter it over your model using the furmaker. This gives far more realistic grass than displacement can do (as far as I know...) Some examples:
